WISE Conference Highlights Women Leaders that Inspire

By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Women helping women through sharing their proven methods of success is one of the messages behind the 6th Annual Wise Conference, to be held Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Lone Star College Community Building in The Woodlands, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Montgomery County Association of Business Women (MCABW), The Business Women’s Forum of Montgomery County, and Women on a Mission to Earn Commission (WOAMTEC) The Woodlands will host the annual conference with speakers committed to empowerment tools, tips, and strategies to inspire attendees on leadership in both their personal and professional development. Each year, the WISE Conference planning committee chooses a local charity to offer a portion of the proceeds. The 2018 WISE Conference will benefit Mercy House, a refuge shelter for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.

As a survivor of domestic abuse, founder Mercy Richard envisioned a shelter that didn’t seem like a prison and offered real respite for others suffering from both sexual and violent domestic abuse. She spent 3 months in a shelter after fleeing with her infant son. Since 2010 Mercy House has provided a safe-haven, education, legal assistance and financial assistance to anyone needing assistance from emotional, verbal, and physical abuse. Survivors may also bring their pets, which is unusual for a shelter. Their new location in Montgomery County will have the capacity to offer shelter for 35 individuals. Michelle Merhar, past anchor at FOX 26, Fox Morning Show, and 740 KTRH Morning Show, is returning once again to emcee the event announcing the key note speaker, Rebekah Gregory and facilitating the Community Leaders Panel of highly distinguished women, while providing guidance to the scheduled program.

Keynote Speaker, Boston Marathon Survivor Rebekah Gregory, will tell the story of running the marathon and losing her leg during the bombings. Her inspiring story of faith, determination, and survival is documented in her book “Taking My Life Back.” No copies will be sold at the event, but Rebekah will autograph copies of her book at the conference.

The Leadership Panel consists of Nelda Blair – Blair Law Firm, Linda Nelson – Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital, and Dr. Ann Snyder – The Woodlands United Methodist Church. All of the women are known in the community for their volunteerism, leadership, and community engagement.

“Women helping women grow personally and professionally is why The Wise Conference holds an annual event,” said Dawn Candy, Event Organizer. “Connect with like-minded women in the community to increase your support system, and your sphere of influence.”
