The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held regular meeting June 24

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held its regular meeting via videoconference on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 6 p.m. 

As part of the President/General Manager’s Report, the Township recognized local students appointed to military academies recognized by Congressman Brady. From The Woodlands, Margaret “Maggie” Marlow, Alexandria “Allie” Griffith and Joshua “Josh” Sorensen will be attending the U.S. Air Force Academy and Mia Martinez will be attending the Naval Academy Prep School. 

The Board of Directors announced the hiring of a new President / General Manager, Jeff Jones, to replace the retiring Don Norrell. Mr. Norrell will be retiring from The Woodlands Township on September 6, 2020 after serving the community since 2006. Mr. Jones is expected to begin employment beginning August 31, 2020. He brings over 25 years of local government experience to The Woodlands Township, including his current position as Deputy City Manager for the City of Mesquite, a large suburb of Dallas that, like The Woodlands, spans two counties.

The Board of Directors took the following action on the Consent Agenda:  

  • Approved a resolution regarding the Annual Report on Financial Information and Operating Data for the disclosure filing pertaining to Sales Tax and Hotel Occupancy Tax Refunding Bonds, Series 2019; Unlimited Tax Bonds, Series 2011; Unlimited Tax Bonds, Series 2012; and Unlimited Tax Refunding Bonds, Series 2019.

The Board of Directors discussed the following matters on the Regular Agenda: 

  • Chairman Gordy Bunch provided a COVID-19 Update for Montgomery and Harris County including current cases, hospitalizations, general bed usage, ICU bed usage, vent usage and more. His presentation can be found at this  link.  

    Director Dr. Ann K. Snyder provided an update on various non-profits including Interfaith of The Woodlands, Meals on Wheels Montgomery County, Community Assistance Center and Montgomery County Food Bank. Her presentation can be found at this link.

    Director Snyder shared that the YMCA is hosting three blood drives in July due to a blood shortage. Each blood drive will be at one of the YMCA locations in The Woodlands. On July 10 and July 13, 2020, there will be a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 6145 Shadowbend Place in The Woodlands. There will also be a blood drive on July 13, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 8100 Ashlane Way in The Woodlands. If you are interested in donating blood, please pre-register at www.giveblood.org.
  • Deferred the repair of the Grogan’s Forest neighborhood entry sign monument.
  • Accepted a report from Woodlands Water on the Bear Branch drainage improvement project.
  • Nominated Director Bruce Rieser to the Texas Water Development Board’s regional flood planning group.
  • Approved an Annexation Agreement for a 50.5518 acre tract North of Indian Hill Road.
  • Approved a Resolution adopting a Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan.
  • Accepted a recommendation from the Audit Committee on the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and the Single Audit Reports for the year ended December 31, 2019.
  • Accepted the financial report.
  • Took no action on President/General Manager compensation.
