By  |

The Woodlands® Development Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Howard Hughes Corporation®, will host the annual Arbor Day Celebration in The Woodlands on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10am to 2pm at its new location – Hughes Landing® on Lake Woodlands®. The Woodlands has celebrated Arbor Day for 41 years, making it one of the longest traditions in the community.

Since 1977, The Woodlands Development Company has given away over 1.44 million tree seedlings at Arbor Day. This year, eight different varieties of free tree seedlings will be available. The selection of trees includes Eastern Redbud, Loblolly Pine, Overcup Oak, Pin Oak, Shumard Oak, Sawtooth Oak, Sycamore and Willow Oak.

CHI St. Luke’s Health and Repsol are the presenting sponsors of this popular celebration. The Woodlands Township is the tree sponsor while BrightView Landscaping Services is a participating sponsor.

“We are pleased to distribute free tree seedlings to enrich our forested community. We applaud the wonderful sponsors who help make the Arbor Day celebration possible,” said Tim Welbes, Co-President of The Woodlands Development Company. “We invite residents and guests to come out and enjoy the festivities. Residents are encouraged to collect their free tree seedlings at the Arbor Day celebration and plant them on their property, in community open space reserves and in forest preserves.”

Lovable mascot of The Woodlands, Puffy Pine Cone®, will also celebrate his birthday, beginning at 1pm with free birthday cupcakes and a visit with mascot friends, including Bridgeland Bill from The Woodlands’ sister community, Bridgeland®. Bridgeland is a development of The Howard Hughes Corporation.

Free giant inflatable rides, rock walls, a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, balloon artists and music will entertain the crowd. Class Act Stars on Tour will present special performances. A giant Snow Hill will highlight the fun. Free 2017 calendars with scenes from The Woodlands will be available while supplies last.

Hughes Landing is an award-winning, 66-acre mixed-use development on 200-acre Lake Woodlands, located on Hughes Landing Boulevard off Lake Woodlands Drive.
