Poster Contest for The Woodlands 30th Annual Wildflower Festival

THE WOODLANDS, TX – (September 11, 2017)The Woodlands® Development Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Howard Hughes Corporation®, has announced that adult entries are now being accepted for The Woodlands Wildflower Festival Poster Contest. Also, entries are now being accepted from children who will compete to have their artwork featured on a Wildflower Festival bag made from recycled materials. The contests are held in conjunction with The Woodlands Wildflower Festival, a popular tradition celebrating its 30th anniversary in the community.

The Woodlands Wildflower Festival is being hosted by The Woodlands Development Company and The Howard Hughes Corporation and is scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2017 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at its new location, Hughes Landing® on Lake Woodlands. The Woodlands Township and BrightView are participating sponsors.

Amy Elise Havern of The Woodlands submitted the winning oil painting, placed on The Woodlands Wildflower Festival official 2016 poster.

Contest entries should portray a nature scene in the spirit of the Wildflower Festival. Interested parties should draw a favorite scene from nature on heavy, unlined white paper, canvas or poster board, no larger than 11” X 17”. Preferred drawing materials are watercolors, oils, pen and ink, pastels, crayons, colored pencils or markers. No writing should be included on the front of the artwork.

Entries will be judged and prizes awarded in the following categories: up to four years, five to eight years, nine to 13 years, 14-18 years and adults (age 19 and over). First place prizes of $100 will be awarded in all four children’s categories. The adult first place winner will receive $300. The Grand Prize winning entry across the four children’s categories will be used on the official recycled bag that is sold at the festival, and the winning adult entry will become the official poster sold at the festival. Proceeds from the bags and poster sales benefit The Woodlands Lions Club.

Entries should be labeled on the back with your name, address, phone number and age (for children’s entries only). Entries may be turned in at The Woodlands Development Company at 1790 Hughes Landing Boulevard, Suite 600. The Woodlands Development Company is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The deadline for entries is Monday, October 2, 2017 at 5:00 pm. The winners will be notified the following week.

This free, family-oriented event features wildflower seeds in many different varieties, giant inflatable rides, a petting zoo, exhibits related to gardening and native plants and music. Lovable mascot of The Woodlands, Puffy Pine Cone®, along with mascot friends including Bridgeland Bill® will make special guest appearances from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the festival. Bridgeland® is a development of The Howard Hughes Corporation, managed by The Woodlands Development Company.
