Nilsson and Ryf claim titles at 2019 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN North American Championship

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Patrik Nilsson (SWE) and Daniela Ryf (CHE) battled their way onto the podium with victories at the 2019 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN® North American Championship Texas triathlon on Saturrday, April 27, 2019. Nilsson paced the highly competitive field with a finishing time of 07:50:55, while four-time defending IRONMAN World Champion Ryf claimed the women’s title with a time of 08:37:48. Today’s race marked Ryf’s final U.S. appearance for the 2019 race season before heading to the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i on Oct. 12.

David Pleše (SVN) finished in second place for the men with a time of 08:01:50. Andrew Starykowicz (USA) rounded out the podium in third with a time of 08:03:53. On the women’s side, Jocelyn McCauley (USA) finished second with a time of 08:39:41 and Jeannie Seymour (ZAF) finished third with a total time of 08:58:03.

 The event saw nearly 2,400 athletes representing 47 states and 60 countries, regions, and territories start the race. Competitors ranged in age from 18–79 years old. One of more than 40 events in the global IRONMAN Series, the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN North American Championship Texas triathlon led athletes along a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run throughout The Woodlands and its surrounding areas. The swim took place in Lake Woodlands, while the one-loop bike course took participants through Montgomery and Harris Counties. Greeted by the supporting crowd, athletes then undertook the triple-loop run entirely within The Woodlands that concluded with a finish on Waterway Ave. The event offered a total professional prize purse of $150,000 and 80 coveted age group qualifying slots to the 2019 IRONMAN World Championship, taking place on Oct. 12 in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
