Township hosts National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on October 27

By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Township will host National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and local law enforcement. New for this year, drop-offs will be accepted in two locations: The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., and The Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park, 6464 Creekside Forest Dr.

During National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, the public is encouraged to drop off unwanted or expired prescription medications. The DEA cannot accept needles or sharps; only pills or patches. The service, coordinated by The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch, is free and anonymous. A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy is scheduled to assist the DEA at The Woodlands Township and a Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 4 deputy is scheduled to assist the DEA at The Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park.

The DEA website states that the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study showed that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. Removing unneeded prescription drugs from homes is a critical component in supporting public health and safety.
