Montgomery County Law Enforcement Work Together on Felony Injury to a Child

By  |

On April 19th, 2019, a 5 year old boy from New Caney was taken to the Kingwood Medical Center with extensive injuries to his lower torso and genitals that the parents claimed were from a bicycle accidentally running over the boy’s groin. The child was listed in critical condition and immediately transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston where he underwent surgery to save his life.

Medical staff there determined that the injuries were not consistent with the story provided by the parents and contacted CPS. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit Detectives were notified and began an investigation working with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation resulted in a search warrant for the residence where the child lived.

The Special Victims Unit Detectives interviewed the parents and obtained a confession from the mother’s boyfriend, 29 year old Jose Manuel Gonzales, who admitted the story about the bicycle was untrue. He admitted to having caused the injuries to the child and a warrant was issued for his arrest on 05/01/2019 for Injury to a Child (Serious Bodily Injury), a 1st Degree Felony.

The Special Victims Unit Detectives contacted the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables Office, who located Gonzales and arrested him on the warrant. The issuing Judge ordered a “No-Bond” on the warrant, which means Gonzales will remain in jail until his pending trial.
