Montgomery County Inmate Found Unresponsive, Death Investigation Underway

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office along with the Texas Rangers are investigating the death of Robert Paul Cantrell, a 49 year old inmate in the Montgomery County Jail.  Mr.  Cantrell was arrested on December 30, 2018 by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for the alleged offenses of Robbery and Evading in a Motor Vehicle and has been in the Jail for that charge since that time.  As the initial investigation continued, Mr. Cantrell was found to be in possession of over 60 forms of identifying information including driver’s licenses, social security cards, credit/debit cards, insurance cards, Lonestar cards and birth certificates that did not belong to him and additional charges were applied.

Mr. Cantrell was found by MCTXSheriff Jail Staff on the morning of July 23, 2019 at approximately 4:18 a.m. hanging from an apparent suicide attempt.  Jail Staff immediately removed the ligature and began CPR as well as called for EMS personnel.  Life saving measures were continued by Conroe Fire EMTs and EMS staff upon their arrival, but all attempts were unsuccessful.

The cause of death is under investigation and is pending autopsy/toxicology reports.

The thoughts of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are with the family and friends of Mr. Cantrell during this difficult time.
