Luncheon to Award Honorable Women in Montgomery County

By  |

In its 27th year, the Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations serves the community by providing nonprofit organizations a forum to network and honor a member of its organization or volunteers at its annual luncheon. The Women of Distinction luncheon will be on Friday, May 12, 2017 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.

“Each year members from local nonprofit organizations gather to honor their “Women of Distinction”, said Theresa Wagaman, Montgomery County Women’s Council of Organizations’s (MCWCO) president. “Volunteers are the backbone of any organization. I’m proud to be a member of a team – a strong group of women – who choose to honor other women in our community. It’s a small way to give back to those who are typically behind the stage while the main production gets the spotlight.”

Any Montgomery County 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations that utilizes volunteers is eligible to nominate one woman from their organization staff or volunteer committee to nominate for the Women of Distinction award. The awards are then given out at the luncheon. Award recipients are recognized for the numerous hours, unyielding commitment and loyal dedication they have provided their organization.

“Our board members recognize the countless hours volunteers give as a way to give back to the community”, said Wagaman. “Women are especially gracious, and find philanthropy work a way 1 of 3 to connect with other women, donate their time while servicing their community. The Women of Distinction luncheon purpose is to give back to those who give, and give a few women praise in a dynamic way.”

The MCWCO board of directors works to foster the cooperation among its members to maximize the effectiveness and potential of each member organization. Included in the board of directors is Theresa Wagaman, president; Carol Gooch, VP public relations and marketing; Anita Phillips, secretary; Mary Lea Kirk, treasurer; board advisor and past president, Gypsie Hufnagle along with Stephanne Davenport and Rita Wiltz. As some of these women are previous recipients of the Women of Distinction award, they also work closely with the nominees and member organizations to educate, promote, support and enhance the efforts of the member organizations.

At the luncheon, the Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum will be modeling fashions through the years in a fashion show titled, Petticoats & Parasols. Then, the Women of Distinction nominees will be presented followed by the awards.
