Lone Star College extends spring break

By  |

HOUSTON, TX (March 12, 2020) – Lone Star College is EXTENDING SPRING BREAK by one week. LSC plans to resume classes Monday, March 23rd. Given the dynamic nature of this situation, LSC asks that all employees and students monitor LSC emails, text alerts, social media channels and LoneStar.edu for the most up to date information.

The LSC administration is working closely with officials to finalize a plan for completing the rest of the semester with the least amount of disruption to a student’s course of study. Internal planning is taking place among LSC administrators to ensure that our employees will not be adversely effected by this closure.

LSC is working diligently with our community leaders, area colleges and ISD’s to share best practices and ensure the best outcome for our community. This is a moment in which institutions and individuals must work together.

All employees and students should adhere to the guidelines established by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for preventing the contraction and spread of COVID-19. This includes, but is not limited to, frequent washing of hands, using alcohol-based hand sanitizer, practicing social distancing, and seeking immediate medical care if one experiences any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19.

LSC understands that many in our community have travelled out of the area during Spring Break, or have been in close contact with those who have travelled. LSC requires a 14 day self-quarantine by all employees and students who have travelled to CDC classified Level 3 countries (China, Iran, Italy, and South Korea) and Level 2 countries (Japan).

The health and safety of the LSC community is always the top priority. LSC is taking a proactive and prudent approach to contingency plans that will protect our community while providing the least disruption possible to our students and employees.

Lone Star College offers high-quality, low-cost academic transfer and career training education to 99,000 students each semester. LSC is training tomorrow’s workforce today and redefining the community college experience to support student success. Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., serves as chancellor of LSC, the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area with an annual economic impact of nearly $3 billion. LSC consists of seven colleges, eight centers, two university centers, Lone Star Corporate College and LSC-Online. To learn more, visit LoneStar.edu.
