The Interview

Share your background and what it was like growing up in Montgomery County. What do you love about living and working in our community?

“Growing up in Montgomery County, graduating from The Woodlands High School, and then moving back to the area after college, we both dove right in to the local community – almost like we had never left. Our mission right away was focused on helping small, local businesses because that’s what builds a strong community. Throughout the years, we have both been involved in the community through local charities, non profit organizations, and events. Giving our time to the community that we both live and work in has always been very important to us.”

Russell Kalousek

“We love living in Montgomery County because of the great schools, neighborhoods that have safe and friendly people. There is a lot of diversity with the woods, lakes and plenty of outdoor activities. Montgomery County is one of the best counties in Texas.”

Matt Kalousek

What was it like to launch and own a family business, Graphic Design FX, in Montgomery County? As brothers, how did you start working together and what roles do you play in the business?

“In Graphic Design FX, Matt brings expertise in graphic design, branding and website development, while I provide the experience in digital marketing and advertising. Matt first started by taking advanced graphic design classes in high school. Soon after, while attending Sam Houston State University and studying graphic design, Matt took jobs on the side in working with family businesses and close friends. The love and passion of helping small local businesses in Montgomery County, lead Matt to continuing and growing the business after college. I went to Stephen F. Austin State University and studied marketing and business and in 2008 joined forces with Matt and launched the Link Local advertising branch of the company. As brothers, we’ve always gotten along, but are two different personalities that fit well together. Joining together was a good match for business while blending the artistic graphic design with the sales and marketing.”

Why is it important to support local businesses in our community?

“Supporting local businesses is a passion for us. We like to call it the “Recycling effect.” It’s when you live and own a small business in the local community, you then use other small businesses in your daily life and business which in turns keeps the money local. Those local businesses pay for children activities, donate to local churches and charities, and in turn grows a stronger community. By supporting local businesses, you are helping to stimulate the local economy.”

Russell Kalousek

Future plans? What do we expect to see from Graphic Design FX / Link Local Guide in the future?

“Graphic Design FX will continue evolving with the ever growing digital age and updating our current services, such as, website design/management, social media marketing, digital marketing and local SEO. We will be implementing new services to continue our effective local business solutions. An app for the Link Local Living Guide website is currently being developed and will feature more options for the local residents.”
