Making the announcement prior to a holiday performance at the band shell by The Woodlands United Methodist Church, Alex Sutton and Tim Welbes, Co-Presidents of The Woodlands Development Company shared, “The construction of the Band Shell and Boardwalk at Hughes Landing® Park represent the latest in a tradition of successful public-private partnerships between the Township and Howard Hughes. The collaboration between the Township and the Development Company is a unique and special way to provide world-class amenities for our residents.”

“On behalf of residents and businesses in The Woodlands, we’re pleased to accept the Band Shell, the accompanying public green space and the Boardwalk into the vast system of parks and pathways in The Woodlands Township,” said Gordy Bunch, Chairman of the Board, The Woodlands Township. “We’re known around the world for our extensive and quality public spaces for our residents and visitors. The Band Shell and this public space is a quality place visited by thousands of residents and visitors every month. We appreciate The Howard Hughes Corporation on this quality development along Lake Woodlands. This is another great amenity for our residents and visitors to The Woodlands for years to come as the site for entertainment, events and festivals.”

The band shell and boardwalk projects were made possible by a Comprehensive Community Services Agreement between The Howard Hughes Corporation and The Woodlands Township under which both entities, among other things, jointly contribute to amenities in the community, after which full ownership is eventually transferred to the Township.

Throughout the past 44 years, the developer of The Woodlands has partnered with The Woodlands Township and before that, The Woodlands Homeowner Associations, in funding projects. Approximately 140 parks and 220 miles of nature trails were developed by both entities and then conveyed to The Woodlands Township from the developer. In addition, Howard Hughes has contributed the land for these green spaces.

Of the 28,000 acres in The Woodlands, 7,665 acres are now devoted to green space. Nearly 8,000 acres, or 28%, will remain undeveloped as green space at buildout. For more information, visit TheWoodlands.com.
