Family Turns Twin Challenges Into Charity For Premature Babies

By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Stephanie and Clint Laskoskie spent five months traversing the peaks and valleys of a hospital neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before they could take home their twins, daughter, Sadie, and son, Gage.

In the two-plus years since Sadie and Gage beat the odds at the Richard Rivas, M.D. NICU at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, their parents have been on a mission to give back.

“There are so many people who supported us during and since our NICU journey with Sadie and Gage,” Stephanie Laskoskie said. “We know how much that support means and we want to do all we can for those facing the same challenges our family had.”

On April 6, the Laskoskies are hosting the Just for J 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run at Northshore Park in The Woodlands. All proceeds from the event will donated to Memorial Herman Foundation to benefit Memorial Hermann The Woodlands NICU.

It’s not the first time the Laskoskies have given back. In 2017, the family donated stuffed animals to the hospital’s NICU. Last year, they hosted a blood drive in recognition of the blood products required to save Sadie and Gage during their NICU stay.

“We’re really excited about this year’s event and placed an emphasis on making it something entire families can participate in and enjoy,” Stephanie Laskoskie said.

All ages, leashed pets, wheelchairs and strollers are welcome to register and participate.

Sadie and Gage will be at the event, along with older siblings, sister, Lauran, and brother, Hunter.

Born 17 weeks premature and each weighing less than 2 pounds, the Laskoskie twins had less than a 50 percent chance of survival. They weren’t stable enough to be held by their parents until they were more than a month old.

“The joy of seeing Gage and Sadie progress and experiencing the compassion of others was countered with the frustration of setbacks in their health and feelings of helplessness,” Stephanie Laskoskie said.

The twins steadily progressed and went home after 151 days in the NICU. They will turn 3 years old in June.

“We’re incredibly blessed,” Stephanie Laskoskie said. “We prayed for a miracle when Gage and Sadie were born and we’re so thankful to have them home to complete our family.”
