Conroe ISD postpones In-Person Instruction until September 8

On Monday, July 20, 2020, Conroe Independent School District shared an update on reopening and 2020-2021 school year, stating, “Because the number of cases in our area continues to rise, the District has been advised by the Montgomery County Public Health District to postpone the start of Traditional In-Person Instruction until at least September 8, 2020. Therefore, Conroe ISD has made the decision to begin the school year on August 12, 2020, with ALL students in Remote/Online Instruction only. Traditional In-Person Instruction is scheduled to begin no earlier than September 8, 2020.” Read the full update here.

The following email was received by parents from Conroe Independent School District.

Dear Conroe ISD Family,

As the number of active cases continue to rise locally and across the State, the District has been in constant communication with the Montgomery County Public Health District and other State and local officials. Because the number of cases in our area continues to rise, the District has been advised by the Montgomery County Public Health District to postpone the start of Traditional In-Person Instruction until at least September 8, 2020. Therefore, Conroe ISD has made the decision to begin the school year on August 12, 2020, with ALL students in Remote/Online Instruction only. Traditional In-Person Instruction is scheduled to begin no earlier than September 8, 2020.  We will continue to work with the Montgomery County Public Health District to evaluate when to make a safe return to campus-based instruction.

This time of Remote/Online Learning will allow teachers and staff to not only begin instruction with all students virtually, but also implement and practice safety protocols for when students participating in Traditional In-Person Instruction are able to return to their campuses.

Currently, the District is planning to allow students who selected Traditional In-Person Instruction to return to campus on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.  Students who selected Remote/Online Instruction will continue to learn from home. Whether we are able to begin offering Traditional In-Person Instruction will depend on whether our community is able to maintain a significant reduction in cases. Families are still encouraged to make their instructional selection so campuses can continue working on scheduling and teacher assignments. 

We know that you undoubtedly will have questions regarding technology, extracurricular activities, coursework expectations, and more. We will share more information with you as soon as it becomes available. We hope to be able to answer some of these questions during our next live update on Thursday, July 23, at 6 p.m. on our YouTube channel. We will continue to post the most updated information on our Roadmap to Reopening website.

Please know that the decision to begin the year virtually was not made lightly, and we know this will be a challenge for many families. I want to thank each of you for your partnership and understanding as we continue to navigate these difficult times.
