2019 District Attorney’s Citizen Prosecutor Academy

Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon has announced that his office is now accepting applications for the 2019 Citizen Prosecutor Academy. This will be the fourth class of the citizen’s academy and will provide a behind the scenes look at what goes on in your District Attorney’s Office. This 12-week course will start on August 12, 2019, and conclude with a graduation ceremony for participants on November 4, 2019.

The District Attorney’s Office is at the forefront of protecting the community and holding criminals accountable. During this course, participants will hear from prosecutors and investigators on a variety of topics, including murder investigations, human trafficking, Grand Jury, internet crimes against children, and the anatomy of a criminal jury trial. The tentative course schedule is as follows:

Week 1: August 12 Academy Overview & Welcoming Remarks

Week 2: August 19 The Criminal Justice Process

Week 3: August 26 Anatomy of a Jury Trial

September 2 Labor Day Holiday – No Class

Week 4: September 9 Crimes Against Children – Physical & Sexual Abuse

Week 5: September 16 Family Violence

Week 6: September 23 Vehicular Crimes / No Refusal Program

Week 7: September 30 White Collar/ Asset Forfeiture

Week 8: October 7 Major Offenders/ Diversion Programs

Week 9: October 14

Week 10: October 21

Week 11: October 28

Week 12: November 4 Public Integrity/ Officer Involved Shootings Human Trafficking Child Exploitation / Internet Crimes Against Children Law Enforcement Q&A / Graduation Ceremony
