Hurricane Harvey

Local Relief Fund raises over $40K for Harvey Victims

By  |

THE WOODLANDS – Helping Hands For Harvey was launched on August 29 by three locally-owned businesses located in The Woodlands and has raised $42,135 in donations.

The idea was simple; together with the community they would provide real, immediate monetary assistance to families who suffered loss during the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. Houston Spine and Rehabilitation Centers, PR Luxury Media/reviewit Magazine and Avantis Healthcare knew that while homes, cars and property were lost, the bills associated with everyday expenses don’t stop piling up. The fund has identified 10 families in need, who will soon receive a check to help them begin to rebuild their lives.

One family who will be receiving assistance from Helping Hands for Harvey noted that the response was the first they had received – they were still waiting to hear back from FEMA and felt their resources slowly being depleted. The effects of Hurricane Harvey will be felt in our community for years to come, and relief efforts will continue even as the debris is removed. Helping Hands for Harvey is continuing to raise funds to meet these needs, with a goal of $100,000.

New requests for aid come in each day and while the city begins to move on, families who have lost everything continue to live in limbo as they await federal aid. The amazing spirit of our community means that they are not without beds, clothes, food and personal hygiene items, but many are still out of work and unable to pay bills. The team behind Helping Hands for Harvey urges the community to continue to open their hearts to assist their neighbors.
