Run for the Roses! Habitat for Humanity Gala

By  |

The community, supporters, and sponsors gathered together at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott for the Habitat for Humanity Gala on Saturday, May 6, 2017. The Gala shared the date with the Kentucky Derby, hence the theme, “Run for the Roses….building homes and hope.”

Presented by The Woodlands-based builder, LGI Homes, the event kicked off at 6:30pm and guests had the opportunity to participate in the silent auction, bid board, Restore ReStyle Auction, and Kendra Scott Rose Pull.

Items from Habitat ReStore were showcased at the VIP Party and Gala auction. The 20,000 square foot Habitat ReStore is a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center that sells new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Located at 9407 SH 242, Conroe, Texas, physical-item donations are accepted and processed for sale to the public at a discount with all proceeds going toward the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TX.  Learn more at www.habitatmctx.org/restore

Master of Ceremonies and KHOU 11 News Anchor Len Cannon led the program while attendees enjoyed a sit down dinner of “Derby Fare” including a Secretariat Salad, “I’ll Have Another” Roll, Run for the Roses Ribeye, and Triple Cream Tart. The program included invocation from Staff Strike Chaplain Ky Bishop, special remarks from Gala Chair Kim Lindley, recognition by Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County’s President Patricia Brown, and live auction ran by auctioneer Rick Grassi.

Lakesha Evans, Habitat for Humanity home recipient, shared her incredible and impactful story with her family on stage and thanked the organization for changing their lives with their new home. Together with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County’s Secretary Larry Abston and auctioneer Rick Grassi, the audience raised an additional $75,000 to help “Build a Home” for another family in need in our community. The event ended with live music from Radio Live and attendees dancing the night away.

Funds raised at the Gala provide vital support that enables HabitatMCTX to fulfill its mission. Learn more about Habitat for Humanity at HabitatMCTX.org.
